The highly anticipated Ghana Week DC 2024 took place from October 7-12 in Washington, D.C., offering a rich and immersive experience for attendees interested in Ghanaian culture, tourism, and business opportunities. The weeklong event, organized by the Ghana Tourism Authority and Beyond the Return Secretariat, in collaboration with LIQUID SOUL Events and the Embassy of Ghana, showcased the cultural heritage of Ghana while fostering connections between Ghana and the African diaspora in the U.S.
The festivities kicked off at the Smithsonian Museum of African Art, where Ghana’s Ambassador to the U.S., Hajia Alima Mahama, stressed the significance of Ghana Week as more than just a celebration. She emphasized its role in promoting tourism and economic collaborations, particularly with African American communities. One of the major highlights of the week was the Capital City Africa Cup, a football match between Asante Kotoko and D.C. United, symbolizing cultural exchange through sports.
Throughout the week, events such as the Hospitality, Travel, and Tour B2B Forum provided networking opportunities for professionals in the tourism and travel industries, furthering business collaborations. The event also coincided with African Restaurant Week, giving attendees a taste of African and Caribbean cuisine.
Overall, Ghana Week DC 2024 successfully built cultural and economic bridges between Ghana and the United States, inviting people to explore travel, repatriation, and investment opportunities in Ghana under the “Beyond the Return” initiative. This initiative seeks to strengthen ties with the diaspora and inspire a decade-long African Renaissance
